All physical moves within the crime scene should be deliberate and made for a purpose. The phone and bathroom should NOT be used. Attempt to insure that nothing is brought into the crime scene (i.e. cigarette butts, shoe impressions, fibers, hair, etc.) Observation and note-taking should be a continuous part of the officer's actions. THE DISTURBING OF A CRIME SCENE SHOULD BE RESTRICTED TO THE EXAMINATION OF AN INJURED OR DECEASED VICTIM. A person's life and well being take precedence over evidence. (The first officer at the scene must still record the location and position of the victim along with their condition, clothing etc.) Emergency-medical personnel should be advised where and how to enter the crime scene and not to make unnecessary disturbances of the crime scene.
